A Walk in the Park

As many of you know, Joe and I have a dog named Barkley. Truth is, Joe and Barkley really have an Avery. Barkley and Joe have been together for over 11 years, I just showed up on the scene three years ago and I'm pretty sure Barkley is wondering when I'm going to leave. Random side note about our little man... Believe it or not Barkley is named after Sir Charles Barkley the beloved basketball player. We call him Charles when he gets into trouble! It was quite an adjustment for me moving into a home with such a large indoor dog. Growing up we had big dogs, but living in the south they lived in the backyard and not inside. Barkley is a sweet dog who loves loves loves Joe! He is a total goofball who makes us laugh and he is always happy to greet you at the door. Barkley is turning 13 next month which is very old for a lab and we are starting to see his age set in. While he is young at heart we are reminded on certain days that our time with him is limited.
We have decided to try and make more of an effort to spend extra time with him and with the nice weather we have been able to take him to some of the local parks that are close to our house for some nice walks. He loves the car ride there, loves taking in all the sights and smells as all dogs do and I think that his favorite part is that we end every walk with a trip to McDonald's to get him a McDouble. Yes, I'm sure that we are every veterinarians nightmare, but what can we say, its such a treat for him and he is 13, we think he has earned the right to have a yummy hamburger here and there! I have attached a few pics of our walk at Day Pond Park. It was such a beautiful day and Barkley loved it. He really surprised us because he hates water so much that he won't even step outside when it is raining, however on this day he walked into pond and seemed to really enjoy himself. Joe and I had a great time spending time with Barkley and with one another. We are so thankful for all of God's creation, and as we walked around and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the park we were reminded of how thankful we are for the joy that our Barkley brings us!
